Artist's Description

As Route 66, the Mother Road, wound its way through Los Angeles back in the 1930s, it passed through the Highland Park neighbourhood as part of both the Transitional and Alternate routes. On Figueroa Avenue, you'll find this old and broken neon sign for the Highland Hotel. The neon has long been removed, the sign is rusty, and the hotel no longer welcomes weary Route 66 travellers since, well, the hotel doesn't exist any longer. But this nifty deep blue sign remains.

About Lenore Locken

Lenore Locken

My passion for photography began when I was just eight years old and received an inexpensive Kodak camera as a gift. Many years and many cameras have come and gone but the passion has only grown. I'm always eager to hit the road in search of new discoveries, maybe an old diner or historic graveyard, perhaps a roadside motel or an abandoned drive-in. My photographs have been featured in galleries, publications, and private collections worldwide. Recently, I participated in the Signs of Life show in Los Angeles at the Perfect Exposure Gallery in Alhambra, California. This show featured photographs of vintage signs shot in the United States, Canada, and other countries, all shot by...
