Artist's Description

If you'd visited this Dunkin' Donuts restaurant a few years ago, you would have come across a sight much different than what you likely would have expected. This location on US 1 (Route 1, the Federal Highway), the first Dunkin' Donuts in Florida, was way more than a donut shop -- it was a full-service restaurant, complete with a grill. Sadly, by the time we got to visit, the grill was gone and it was just an ordinary donut shop, although it still has all the booths plus some great old photos on the walls. It opened in 1962 and it was the last remaining full-service Dunkin' Donuts restaurant anywhere in the world -- until 2015, when the grill was shut down for good and it became just another donut shop. Absolutely still worth a visit though, if only just to gaze upon their wonderful neon sign.

About Lenore Locken

Lenore Locken

My passion for photography began when I was just eight years old and received an inexpensive Kodak camera as a gift. Many years and many cameras have come and gone but the passion has only grown. My speciality is Americana, particularly vintage signage. I'm always eager to hit the road in search of new discoveries, maybe an old diner or historic graveyard, perhaps a roadside motel or an abandoned drive-in. My photographs have been featured in galleries, publications, and private collections worldwide. Recently, I participated in the Signs of Life show in Los Angeles at the Perfect Exposure Gallery in Alhambra, California. This show featured photographs of vintage signs shot in the United States, Canada, and other countries, all shot by...
